At Underpass, we know we picked great writers for our launch, and we have been excited to see them stacking up honors since we began last fall. Here’s just a few that we’ve heard about:
Zoran Malkoč was awarded the T-portal Award for Novel of the Year, one of Croatia’s most prestigious literary awards! The novel, Roki Raketa/Rocky Rocket was published by Profil in 2014. The book has been called a romantic fairy tale about two writers and a magical dog. The T-portal award come with a cash prize of $50,000 kuna (about $7,000 US)!

Vedran Volarić’s manuscript 22 Centuries won the Ivan vitez Trnski award for the best unpublished novel for authors under the age of 35) from region Podravina and Prigorje in Croatia. The novel, which will be Volarić’s first, follows the reincarnation of ten characters, with each chapter situated in a different century. As part of the award, the novel will be published by Croatian Writers' Association (DHK) in Croatia in 2017. Volarić has already built a strong online presence with numerous awards from his short stories.

Ksenija Kušec will soon get to see her work on the big screen as one of her stories from the book Reci me sve/ Tell Me Everything was chosen to be adapted for a short film. Read Kušec’s stories Revolution and Matrix on Underpass.
Jelana Zlatar’s short stories “U šumi/In the Woods” and “Brujanje u drveću/Rustling in the trees” were accepted in the competitions for the best short story of Kritična masa and Gradska knjižnica Samobor.
