Nikola Đuretić was born in Osijek, Croatia in 1949. At the University of Zagreb he majored English Language and Literature as well as Comparative Literature. To date, Đuretić has published more than twenty books of short stories, novels, essays, poems, feuilleton, and memoires. His work has been included in many anthologies and he has received numerous literary awards. He has translated and edited works of many contemporary English and Irish authors (Craig, Williams, Lively, Rushdie, Ishiguro, McEwan, V. S. Pritchett, Bainbridge, Barnes, De Bernieres, Tremain, Egan, etc.). For more than two decades, he lived in London where he worked for the BBC as a Senior Producer. For his contribution to Croatian culture he received the state order of merit Red Danice hrvatske s likom Marka Marulića. Upon retiring from the BBC, he returned to Croatia where he lives as a full-time writer. Nikola Đuretić is a member of the Croatian Writers' Association.
