Jelena Zlatar was born in Zagreb, Croatia, in 1982. After high school she studied Sociology and Philosophy at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Zagreb. She graduated in 2006 and since then has been working at the Institute for Social Research in Zagreb in the group for rural and urban sociology and sociology of space.
She received her PhD in Sociology in 2012 (Utjecaj društvenih aktera na urbane transformacije i obnovu Zagreba nakon 2000/Influence of social actors on urban transformations and urban renewal in Zagreb after 2000). Her book Urban transformations of transitional Zagreb was published in 2013 (Plejada and Institute for Social Research in Zagreb).
Her short story “Missing /Nedostaje” was published in a book of short stories Krom i pakao (Centre for Creative Writing, 2012). Her stories have also been published on several websites (kratkaprica.bloger.index.hr, arteist.hr, etc ).
